Schafhof Kronberg

The Schafhof has a centuries-old history and is strongly linked to the local history of Kronberg.

Today's Schafhof was called Hof Fronrode in the Middle Ages, fell to Hartmut V in 1324 and was later given its name due to the importance of sheep farming. This is the origin of the name "Schafhof", which has survived to this day. In the 17th century, around 3000 sheep were still grazing on the extensive grounds in the Taunus. In 1899, it became the property of St. Katharinen- und Weißfrauenstift Frankfurt, which was later replaced by the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist as the permanent tenant. At the beginning of the 19th century, the sheep farm was abandoned by the Ducal Nassau Domain Administration and the farm subsequently changed hands

Liselott Linsenhoff came to the farm in 1971 and, after demolishing the old buildings, generously converted the old property into a center for dressage sport. In cooperation with the Frankfurt competition stable Schwarz-Gelb, a prestigious facility was created there that blends in perfectly with the landscape.

The grande dame of German dressage was the first woman to win a gold medal in the individual dressage competition at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich with Piaff.

After the death of her mother, Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff took over the 24-hectare farm in 2000. Since then, the 1988 Olympic champion, her husband Klaus-Martin Rath and her stepson Matthias Alexander Rath have been successfully breeding, training and presenting dressage horses at competitions in the name of Schafhof. A diverse, high-quality and unique selection of breeding stallions ensures that special bloodlines are bred at the Schafhof.

The Schafhof traditionally opens its doors to interested visitors on special occasions. Three European Championships have already been held here. Every year, the Schafhof hosts the dressage tournament, which is so important for young dressage riders, to determine the best. In summer, the international Schafhofs Youth Festival is held for the most talented young dressage riders in the world and the CDI4* Schafhofs Dressage Festival for the existing dressage elite. In addition, breeders' days with a private stallion presentation are held every year, giving breeders from all over the world the opportunity to find out about the outstanding Sires in dressage sport.
